Averina established Indonesia Sehat Foundation in 2016 with a passion to provide equal healthcare access for all children in Indonesia, in particular to malnourished and stunted children. Together with her foundation, she promoted early health awareness and provided essential healthcare supplies and examination to 25,000 children and their families in the rural areas of Indonesia. Coming from a prior undergraduate study in Indonesia, Averina was exposed to Indonesia's healthcare landscape. Studying in the UK and Newcastle University has provided Averina to further sharpen her critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and knowledge on global health to provide the best evidence-based approach to the disparity in healthcare access in Indonesia. More importantly, the UK education brought best practice and global mindset that enhanced Averina's ability to deliver significant impact back home.
Since returning from the UK, Averina has continued her medical education in the University of Indonesia. She is currently continuing her clinical rotation in Rumah Sakit Cipto Mangunkusumo teaching hospital since early 2021. This opportunity has given her a chance to have a hands-on approach on the medical field. She has met with many patients ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics with different social backgrounds. This has provided her a better understanding of the healthcare system in Indonesia by being direct contact with patients and medical professionals. Through the involvement with patient care, she has earned a vast knowledge on the various health issues and diseases and improved her clinical understanding and empathy each day. Averina hopes to be a doctor that puts her patients’ well-being as the utmost importance and provide them with the best care possible. This experiences help her change and improve the programs in her organization to be more effective and impactful. Averina chose to study in the UK because she believes that the UK is the leading country in medicine research and healthcare system, and this collectively can help her to realize her goal of alleviating all forms of healthcare issues such as malnutrition in Indonesia. Beyond that, she also believes that the UK can widen her understanding of different cultural and social backgrounds, and this would help develop her not just intellectually, but also emotionally and empathetically.
