Hari Nugroho is a physician at BNN or the National Narcotic Board. Specialising in addiction medicine, Hari is actively pushing for a paradigm shift in drug abuse by advocating for a more humanist drug policy in Indonesia and treating drug abuse as a health issue.
Hari’s time studying and interning at the Institute of Psychiatry Psychology and Neuroscience of King’s College London inspired him to broaden his horizon on substance abuse intervention, particularly after having witnessed first-hand the ineffectiveness of hard, harsh, and punitive drug policies in curbing drug abuse cases. As such, Hari credits King’s College London for providing him with a unique and comprehensive approach to overcome drug addiction by using evidence-based science and respecting human rights. Hari has also appeared in renowned national newspapers and TV stations via articles, feature stories, and interviews as well as conducted free online training to increase professionalism in the drug abuse workforce and taught the public health aspect of addiction and how to manage substance abuse to medical students at Trisakti University.
