Pustaka Pias and Small Fry Collective are in collaboration for a 5-month project with the working title “IDENTICAL: Book of Minority Communities” which is implemented in Indonesia and the UK.
Departing from Pustaka Pias' spirit of decolonization, the project work will initiate conversations between minority groups in Indonesia and the UK, and discuss the connection between the history of colonialization and the discrimination posed on the minority communities. Both organisations aim to examine and present the underlying issues of racism and discrimination, the similarities and differences of the two issues in Indonesia and UK through literature review, and through a thorough online focus group discussion between six artists that will represent various minority communities.
The project aspires to create an impactful collaborative art project that celebrates minority communities or underrepresented groups in Indonesia and the UK, telling their stories through publishing a book and a digital archive. Moreover, both organisations wish to foster public awareness, respect, and empathy for minority communities, and enable creative collaboration and innovative exploration between artists from Indonesia and the UK.
This project will be conducted by Delphi Suhariyanto and Titis Embun Ayu Winasis of Pustaka Pias in collaboration with Maisy Summer and Isobel Platt of Small Fry Collective.
