Introduction

Differentiated learning has become a key focus in education, particularly in English Language Teaching (ELT) across Southeast Asia. This session aligns with our theme this month i.e. Planning lessons and courses that focusses on strategies to promote inclusive and equitable learning environments for diverse classrooms.

Teachers in Southeast Asia face unique challenges and opportunities influenced by educational policies, cultural contexts, and available resources. In response to feedback from our January webinar, participants expressed a strong interest in gaining practical strategies for implementing differentiated instruction. Differentiated instruction involves tailoring teaching approaches to address the diverse learning needs, interests, and abilities of all students within a single classroom. As diverse student needs continue to grow in English language classrooms, differentiated instruction has become essential

This event will bring together three experienced English teachers from Thailand, Indonesia, and Myanmar to share their classroom practices, strategies, and insights on differentiated instruction. Through a teacher discussion format, participants will learn how these strategies can be applied in various educational settings.

Key findings from our Online CPD report for ASEAN teachers highlight the importance of this topic:

  1. Demand for practical resources: Teachers seek CPD activities that directly impact their classroom practices and help address immediate challenges.
  2. Value of interactivity and accessibility: Educators prefer short, engaging sessions that are easy to access and implement, considering the diverse teaching contexts and available resources.
  3. Focus on inclusivity: Teachers are increasingly focused on creating inclusive classrooms where all students, regardless of ability or background, can thrive.
