Calling all fashion lovers in Indonesia! To support the development of the fashion industry in Indonesia, this year British Council continues the partnership with the Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) 2016 through exhibitions and fashion show, capacity building workshop in business, discussion about sustainable fashion and creative collaboration between British designers and Indonesia.

LUCY SIEGLE AT JAKARTA FASHION WEEK
We are proud to announce that we’re inviting Lucy Siegle to JFW this year. Lucy is a British writer and broadcaster with a passion for sustainable fashion who appears and produced the international documentary The True Cost of Fashion. Siegle will share her expertise around the issue of sustainable and ethical fashion to the Indonesian fashion industry. This includes a talk on sustainable fashion that will be held in partnership with Dewi magazine, as well as a film screening of her film, The True Cost of Fashion with Cita Cinta magazine.
Sustainable Fashion Forum

This 1 (one) hour forum will bring together experts and practitioners from the UK and Indonesia together to share knowledge, examine challenges and opportunities arising around sustainability and ethics within the growing fashion sector in Indonesia and the UK. Sustainable Fashion is a strand of Sustainable Design, where fashion products are created and produced with consideration of the environmental and social impact it may have through its total life cycle. The forum will be conducted mainly in English.
Film Screening: The True Cost

True Cost tells a story about clothing – the clothes we wear, the people who make them, and the impact the industry is having on our world. The price of clothing has been decreasing for decades, while the human and environmental costs have grown dramatically. The True Cost is a groundbreaking documentary film that pulls back the curtain on the untold story and asks us to consider, who really pays the price for our clothing?

In addition to her activities in JFW 2016, Siegle will also be attending Ubud Writers and Readers Festival 2015. Together with William Ingram (co-founder, Threads of Life) and Diana Greentree, (Actress/Writer), she will be one of the speakers to talk about how cultures record their histories and create sustainable practices in cloth.
ED MARLER AT JAKARTA FASHION WEEK
Through partnership with JFW, British Council also aims to persistently introducing British most promising fashion designers to Indonesia. This year, we bring Ed Marler to have a runway show with London based Indonesian designer Rinda Salmun, as well as a talkshow where Marler can share his insight into the fashion industry in the United Kingdom.

DIAN PELANGI X LONDON COLLEGE OF FASHION
In February 2015, Dian Pelangi was invited to the UK and organised a competition for students of London College of Fashion. Two young designers, Odette Steele and Nelly Rose Stewart were selected for Fashion Mission ID, an internship programme at Dian Pelangi studios in Pekalongan that enables them to delve into Indonesian fashion industry. They will present the result of their collaboration at JFW 2016.
