Following their triumphant six-week residency and festival gigs in Indonesia last year, Northern Ireland singer/songwriter DANI - also known as Danielle Carragher - and Indonesian percussion duo KunoKini have teamed up once again to fuse their respective traditional-based sound, this time around in her home turf. Under the name Our Future Roots, the trio spent the entire month of August performing at a host of prestigious stages, including Stendhal Festival, 7 Hills Blues Festival and The Open House Festival.

Although it might seem like the two cultures are at odds with one another, DANI and KunoKini proved that music truly is a universal language what with the respective act’s love of traditional instruments and elements as well as the use of music as a form of self-expression and storytelling, reflective of their respect and connection to the land. In turn, this resulted in an utterly arresting aural concoction that crossed boundaries and bound them together in one go.

In addition to live performances, the trio also conducted workshops with community groups and hosted a fundraiser for earthquake victims in Lombok, Indonesia. They also hope to resume their collaboration in the future, as DANI puts the finishing touches on her next release, no doubt inspired by her time in Indonesia and work with KunoKini.
