We are presenting the award winning collection of documentary film work Notes on Blindness at Festival Film Dokumenter in Yogyakarta as well as part of Screen Docs in Jakarta and during our Digital Design Weekend.

Audiences are invited to dive in the works of Peter Middleton and James Spinney, following Professor John Hull’s journey in understanding his life-changing experience in becoming and being blind. Notes on Blindness is presented in a variety of formats; feature-length film, short documentary, and Virtual Reality experience.

“...this superb documentary by Peter Middleton and James Spinney dramatises the life-changing experiences of theology professor John Hull, ...Middleton and Spinney have created an utterly immersive feature worthy of Hull’s end-quote declaration that “to gain our full humanity, blind people and sighted people need to see each other”. The Guardian.

Writers and Directors

Peter and James have been working together for the past six years on a range of fiction, documentary and cross-platform projects. During this period they have adapted John’s diary material into a series of award winning short films. The first of these, ‘Rainfall’, won the Best Short Documentary Award at Hot Docs 2013. This was followed in 2014 by the Emmy Award-winning short, also entitled ‘Notes on Blindness’, which screened at Sundance Film Festival and won Best Documentary at Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival.

Notes on Blindness is their first feature.
