Yuyun Ismawati Drwiega is a leading international expert for mercury and Artisanal and Small-scale Gold Mining (ASGM). Yuyun’s dedication to raising awareness about the harmful effect of mercury to human health and the environment was instrumental in discovering new cases of ‘uncommon diseases’ in several gold mining hotspots that were contaminated with mercury. Her interventions and advocacy works, supported by her team and network, provide a human face to mercury treaty negotiation. 

Yuyun obtained her master’s degree in Environmental Change & Management from the University of Oxford. 

Studying in the UK at the University of Oxford provided her with qualities and skills vital to confronting the impact of the changing environment to humans and the living environment.

She is affiliated with the Green Templeton College, Oxford.

Yuyun is the recipient of an Ancora Graduate Scholarship.
