Breaking Barriers: UK-Indonesia Collaborations in Shaping Inclusive Futures

Inclusion takes many forms, and our particular focus with this event is on championing disability rights and gender equality. By harnessing the power of education, language, arts, and culture, we aim to build a future where everyone is valued, respected, and empowered.

On the 5th of December, in celebration of the International Day of People with Disabilities, we will gather to spotlight best practices in embedding inclusion through UK-Indonesia collaborations, across diverse sectors. From formal and non-formal learning environments to innovative teaching methods and creative initiatives, we come together to explore the challenges and opportunities in fostering an accessible, safe, and empowering future for all. This event brings together changemakers, educators, artists, and advocates to inspire meaningful collaboration and drive impactful change towards a truly inclusive world.

This event is also part of the celebrations for the 75 Years Anniversary of UK-Indonesia Diplomatic Relations, and the 90th Anniversary of the British Council globally.

Session 1 - "Creating an inclusive environment in Higher Education"

Exploring how universities foster inclusion, with insights from our partnership grants on skill development, accessible facilities, and student support programmes.

Session 2 - "Being a teacher with disabilities: Perspectives, practices, and opportunities"

Session 3 - "Arts as a Tool to Promote Disability Empowerment"

Explore how arts empower people with disabilities in this session, featuring a dance documentary screening as well as panel discussion on British Council-supported disability arts projects.
